More
Than Gold
sports camps and clinics were
established in 1996 to build solid sports skills and strong
Christian character.
Basketball was the first sport used for this purpose. After 15
years, soccer, baseball, wrestling, cheerleading, and multi-sports camps/clinics
have been held in numerous states, foreign countries, and across North
Carolina. Tennis will be added in early 2012. More Than Gold is also a gospel-centered resource for
Upward sports, Salvation Army,
YMCA, and other organizations conducting sports programs.
Gym courts, fields, and black tops
are common sites for MTG Sportsreach camps and clinics. Campers (7-15
years old) have attended half-day and full-day camps and clinics at
churches, schools, parks, and street corners for the past 14 years.
Cross training, Today's Heroes, contests, and team play highlight all
camps and clinics sponsored by CEF Ministries of North Carolina in
Durham. Local coaches, players, church leaders serve as staff.

Blacktop Games
April 9, 2011
Braggtown Baptist Church, Christian Assembly Church, Child Evangelism
Fellowship®, United For Christ Church, and Comunidades de Formacion Cristiana
collaborated for this evangelistic event of competitive games
including foul shooting and knockout contests, jump rope, soccer shootout, and many more. Prizes
were awarded every 30 minutes. Food and drinks were also provided during
the three hour event.
Several sports and music celebrities attended and served during the event including basketball coaches
Chris Carrawell of Duke (pictured above speaking)
and Phil Ford (UNC) of the NBA Charlotte Bobcats. Christian dj, Michael Harris aka "dj fam" provided music.
Coaches,
pastors, and "Irvin 'd Clown" gave personal testimonies and
presented the Gospel throughout the afternoon event. This outreach had the support and presence of the Durham Police, Fire,
and Rescue departs. Approximately 100 volunteers were involved
loving 500 neighbors and campers from the local community.
Pick-up Soccer
Camp
August, 2010
Oak Creek Village in southwest Durham was the site of an open camp of
pick-up games and Bible teaching. Kids were coached as they played
soccer during the week long camp, which was held in combination with a
"kid's club" or 5-Day Club®. A sustainable
soccer-based outreach is being developed for this community (below).
