PrayDurham initiative participates

in special events at Duke, State Capitol, and Newark City Hall

Adopting every Durham street block by block for prayer is the initial focus of PrayDurham with long term goals of spiritual air supremacy over the city and that every community will experience multiple expressions of the Gospel. The first phase is currently embracing streets in ten under resourced and target communities, school sites, and city government sites for strategic prayer. Over  600 target areas and residential streets are registered. John Blake, CEF Director, was at Duke during the National Day of Prayer and their reconciliation summer institute to cast the vision of PrayDurham. He also had opportunity this summer to travel with Dr. David Lobach to Newark, NJ and discuss “PrayNewark” where every street is adopted. John participated in a prayer service at city hall with the Newark City Council. Then back in June the CEF  Director joined select pastors, leaders, and NC state government officials for a “Call to Prayer” at the NC State Capitol (pictured above). These events and prayer movements are emerging across the nation. U.S. and State legislators are actively taking the initiative to form official Prayer Caucuses to protect and defend the right of Americans to pray and express their faith in God. National information is found at Pray USA.

National Day of Prayer
History was made as Durham observes the 60th annual    National Day of Prayer at the Duke University Chapel for the first time on Thu. May 5th. The noon prayer service was well attended as was the luncheon which followed in the Bryan Center on campus. The hour-long prayer service featured music, prayer for aspects of our nation, state, and city, as well as a pastoral commissioning of the faithful who attended to go forth as ministers of our city. The closing featured a call to action by engaging the PrayDurham initiative. Details and pictures can be seen online at the Herald-Sun. Other events during the week of National Day of Prayer included a prayer meeting at the YMCA downtown on Tue. May 3rd and "An Evening with Tim Keller" which drew a crowd of nearly 1,500. PrayDurham was also promoted at the Wed. May 4th event at the DPAC.
